My Story

I didn’t grow up thinking I’d lead engineering teams or build platforms that impact millions. But I did grow up curious — about people, systems, and the way the world works.

When I was a kid, my family moved from China to Nigeria, and I studied at an international school alongside classmates from France, Greece, India, United States, Australia and across Africa. It was one of the most formative experiences of my life. I learned to listen, to appreciate different perspectives, and to see the world through a wider lens. That global mindset stuck with me — and it’s shaped how I lead, build, and connect ever since.

Fast forward 20+ years, and I’ve built a career at the intersection of technology, business, and people. I’ve led global engineering teams, scaled enterprise platforms, and helped organizations grow by building products that actually solve meaningful problems.

Early in my career as a solution engineering consultant, I learned that the best tech doesn’t start with code — it starts with empathy. Listening to customers, teammates, and users taught me how critical it is to understand pain points before offering solutions. That mindset still anchors my leadership philosophy: Get close to the problem, Understand the people it impacts, and Build from there.

As I stepped into engineering leadership at Liberty Mutual, Global Atlantic, and later Episource and Optum, I became focused on building systems that scale — not just platforms, but operating models where Strategy, System, Execution and People work in concert. I embedded LEAN-Agile and DevSecOps principles to increase delivery speed, security, and clarity — but I learned that the most enduring improvements come from systems designed around people. When you deeply understand the business — its workflows, incentives, and constraints — engineering becomes a true partner in shaping outcomes. And when culture reinforces ownership, trust, and continuous learning and improvement, that system doesn’t just deliver great outcome — it scales and sustains.

That desire to bridge tech and business led me to pursue my MBA at Chicago Booth, where I focused on strategy, finance, and entrepreneurship. It gave me the language and tools to better connect what we build to the value we create — not just for the company, but for the people we serve.

At Episource, I had the opportunity to lead two core product value streams that helped double the company’s revenue in under three years. It wasn’t just about writing great code or managing roadmaps — it was about aligning the right people, the right processes, and the right architecture to build something that lasts. We didn’t chase features — we built scalable, AI-driven platforms grounded in user needs, operational efficiency, and long-term impact. When Episource was acquired by Optum, I stayed on post-acquisition and played a key role in integrating our technology and teams into a larger enterprise ecosystem. That experience taught me how to navigate scale, compliance, and change — while preserving the innovation and velocity that got us there in the first place.

Outside of work, I live in Westfield, Indiana with my wife and our son. I enjoy biking, hiking, and, more recently losing graciously in pickleball. I’m an avid reader, especially of books on leadership, systems thinking, and business strategy. Favorites like The Goal, High Output Management, and Playing to Win have deeply influenced how I think about people, process, and technology

At my core, I believe technology is only as powerful as the problems it solves — and that great teams, when led well, can change everything.

Thanks for stopping by.

CTO at Neilson Financial Service

I had the pleasure of working with Jack when he was a Senior Director of Engineering on my team, and I can confidently say he’s one of those rare leaders who seamlessly blends deep technical expertise with strong business acumen.

Jack brought a wealth of experience in Salesforce and led high-performing, distributed engineering teams with clarity, empathy, and effectiveness. His technical chops were a given—but what really stood out was how business-minded he is. He proactively built financial models that helped us prioritize our backlogs based on value and ROI, a game-changer in aligning engineering with strategic outcomes.

Beyond the skills and impact, Jack is someone people love to work with. He brings energy, passion, and a sense of fun to every challenge, lifting the whole team around him.

Any organization would be lucky to have Jack in a leadership role.

Jack Feng is a great business partner who truly aligns his efforts to the business needs.

Over the past 15 months, Jack was an extended member of my leadership team and always took the time to really understand the business issues and how he and his team could address business pains.

Jack understands that his success is not based on simply implementing technology, it’s about technology being a resolver of business issues and that success comes from collaboration, listening and taking the time to understand the issues.

Jack is collaborative, insightful, action orientated and a problem solver. Never was a problem too big, or too small for him and he was always the very first to pick up the phone and say yes to supporting the business when we needed it..

Tech Lead at Episource

Jack was the best leader I’ve ever worked with.
We worked together for almost three years at Episource/Optum, and during that time, I learned a lot from him.
He always looked at the big picture, not just one part of the problem. That helped us make better decisions as a team.
Jack is also great at communication—when things were confusing, he could explain the situation clearly and help us understand what to do next.
He managed several teams at the same time and knew how to connect different projects and people. More than that, Jack treated everyone with respect and kindness. He made us feel supported and appreciated every day.
Jack is also very up to date with new technologies. He encouraged us to explore and use AI in our daily work, which helped improve our productivity and inspired us to keep learning and innovating.
He’s a great leader, and I’m sure any team would be lucky to work with him.
